PORTRAITURE

THE HUMAN FACTOR

Portraiture is probably the hardest type of photography I shoot. It teeters on the line between commercial and artistic and is arguably the most relatable of all the photographic fields. Who hasn’t taken a selfie, or a cute photo of their dog?

And yet, it is both incredibly difficult to critique, and maybe it’s because the one unifying factor between all these things is the human factor; the subliminal story or conclusions you can draw from the subject's eyes or their getup – which gives portraiture its magic and obstruse feel.
